Multifamily Preservation Resource Desk

Welcome to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD’s) Online Section 236 Preservation Resource Desk. As of July 1, 2013, HUD’s Office of Multifamily Housing Programs initiated a centralized processing model for the majority of Section 236 preservation activity through the Office of Recapitalization (Recap) in HUD Headquarters.  A copy of the June 28, 2013, memorandum announcing this change is available on HUD’s web site.

Please note that individual State Housing Finance Agencies (HFAs) continue to be responsible for processing prepayment requests on State issued Section 236 mortgages. However, if the Owner is seeking approval to defer the outstanding Flexible Subsidy loan or any of the other applicable transaction requests listed below then the request must be submitted to OAHP.

HUD has developed this central clearinghouse to provide Section 236 property owners with a portal to apply for the specific HUD approvals associated with preserving the affordability of the property and to centralize access to pertinent Section 236 affordability preservation information and policy guidance. See the following menu for a summary of the various Section 236 prepayment and preservation approvals that are now processed by OAHP:
